Job Description

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Student Services in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS), the Academic Success Coach advises and supports cohorts of at-risk CHSS major students through the development of strategic academic success plans that identify barriers to academic success, establish realistic student goals and responsibilities, and leverage diverse academic resources like tutoring and mentoring networks. The Academic Success Coach connects students with campus engagement opportunities to help the student deepen their sense of belonging and inclusion in their academic programs and the university community. The Academic Success Coach regularly monitors student progress during and between semesters and assesses whether students are meeting their responsibilities and if the current academic success plan is resulting in the desired outcomes or needs to be refined. The Academic Coach collaborates with other individuals and units who support each student, including professional and faculty academic advisors, financial aid counselors, the Center for Academic Success and Tutoring, and the Dean of Students. Academic Success Coaches assess outcomes through common metrics like GPA, retention/persistence, and degree progression, but also with attention to differences in success associated with race, age, gender, ethnicity, income, and first-generation status of students.
