Job Summary
The Accountant II prepares, reconciles, and audits budgets. Prepares financial reports, invoices, schedules, and/or statements. Completes journal entries. Reviews, analyzes, and approves expenditures. Determines fund balances. Ensures compliance with applicable laws, University policies, and procedures. Provides guidance and trains entry-level accountants.
Additional Department Summary
Performs advanced professional accounting activities for the Office for Teaching Innovation & Digital Education, specifically related to non-credit and grant accounting. Applies proper accounting procedures and standards to data entered and reported from the secondary accounting system for non-credit accounting. Requires a knowledge of grants to advise on grant accounting. Applies advanced accounting principles and knowledge to ensure OTIDE financial non-credit and grants are properly recorded and reported. Ensures recording and reporting occurs in a timely fashion, meeting the needs of customers. Evaluates compliance with accounting standards for non-credit programs. Supervises clerical and student staff employees; oversees and approves work prior to being disseminated to customers and approves leave requests. OTIDE's non-credit budget accounts for about a $4-5 million annual revenues as well as around $3-5 million in grants. The total OTIDE revenue budget is in excess of $40 million per year.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting, finance, business, or related financial field and two (2) years of accounting experience; OR Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Skills and Knowledge
High level of competency working in Microsoft Excel creating complex financial spreadsheets using formulas and analysis tools. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. Clear communication skills both written and verbally. Ability to serve customers by meeting needs in a timely and accurate manner.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in Banner, Enrole, or other accounting software. Experience working in a higher education environment and working with grants. Experience working with both revenue and cost accounting.
