Job Description

Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) is a unique Indigenous Institute, recognized by community, government, and institutions of higher learning, as a Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Knowledge. SNP offers postsecondary, secondary, trades education and training. SNP has formal partnerships with nine publicly funded Ontario Universities and Colleges and collaborates with six Ontario-based Indigenous owned and controlled post-secondary Institutes.

JOB PURPOSE

The Accountant, Program and Project (Accountant) supports the financial management and stewardship of funded agreements that support the institutions academic programs, community initiatives, and student services. The role maintains accurate accounting for grant-funded activities and oversees accounts receivable related to grant reimbursements, tuition, contracts, and sponsorships amongst others. Working collaboratively with academic program leads, community partners, and external funders, the Accountant ensures transparent and compliant financial practices.

The Accountant is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff, students, stakeholders, and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment consistent with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ganigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Grants Accounting & Financial Administration 50%
  • Maintain accurate financial records for all grant-funded programs.
  • Maintain and track grant budgets including revenues, expenditures, and
  • Prepare internal and external financial reports.
  • Monitor allowable expenditures and maintain audit-ready
  • Reconcile grant-related general ledger accounts.
  • Other related duties, as required.
Accounts Receivable (AR) Management 30%
  • Oversee invoicing, payment tracking, reconciliations, and AR aging.
  • Issue invoices for tuition, sponsorships, contract training, and grant
  • Track collection of receivables and follow up appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate AR records and reconcile monthly.
  • Support payment plans or arrangements with student services.
  • Other related duties, as required.
Compliance, Accountability & Audit Support 5%
  • Ensure compliance with funding agreements and reporting
  • Maintain documentation aligned with funders requirements.
  • Prepare audit schedules and respond to inquiries.
  • Support governance bodies with financial information.
  • Other related duties, as required.
Reporting & Financial Analysis 5%
  • Prepare programs financial statements, funder reports, and AR aging
  • Analyze variances and support decision-making.
  • Prepare program cash flow forecasts.
  • Contribute financial data to institutional reporting.
  • Other related duties, as required.
Grant Lifecycle Support 5%
  • Assist with developing grant budgets.
  • Review funding agreements for financial terms.
  • Track milestones to support timely invoicing.
  • Support grant close-out procedures.
  • Other related duties, as required.
Relationship Building & Collaboration 5%
  • Build positive relationships with staff, communities, and funders.
  • Provide guidance on grants related financial and AR procedures.
  • Communicate respectfully in all interactions.
  • Other related duties, as required.

EDUCATIONAL KNOWLEDGE

Completion of a formal post-secondary college or university program of three to four academic years in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent.

EXPERIENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / CULTURE AND LANGUAGE EXPERTISE

Over 3 years and including 5 years of program/project financial management or accounting experience, ideally with grants and contributions funded programs.

Prior experience working with Indigenous organizations and communities.

Criminal Record Check

The successful candidate will be required to provide an original Criminal Background Check – Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) prior to the first day of work at Six Nations Polytechnic, and an Offence Declaration that is satisfactory to SNP by their first day of employment at Six Nations Polytechnic.
