Accounting Assistant IV - Student Accounts and Cashiering Services

Under the direction of the Assistant Director or above, this position is responsible for:
- Keeping Accounting Assistant III's informed of current office procedures as directed by Director and Assistant Director.
- Participate in onboarding new hires and assist with training.
- Coordinate and authorize leave requests for Accounting Assistant III's.
- Determine staffing needs for Cashiers office, includes all three campuses.
- Provide customer service to internal and external customers.
- Handles counter transactions, escalations and departmental inquiries.
- Apply knowledge and skills to individual circumstances of the customer.
- Process fee waivers, payment plan requests, and departmental deposits.
- Handle monthly collections inquiries to include posting funds to student accounts in Peoplesoft.
- Manage collection disputes and verifications.
- Manage credit card disputes.
- Review and support bankruptcy notifications.
- Daily review of the records of deposits (ROD).
- Review and schedule audits for internal and external departments.
- Assist with monitoring the cashiers.office@csn.edu email account.
- Acts as the daily closing Supervisor, which makes sure all cashiers are balanced and Peoplesoft is closed for the day.
- Consistently demonstrate superior team player skills in day to day interactions with co-workers and customers (internal & external).
- Overtime is mandatory during peak periods.
- Provide supervision, guidance, support, and training to Accounting Assistant III's. Duties includes closing supervisor at any of the 3 main cashiering office locations. This includes end of day reconciliations and effectively closing Peoplesoft at end of day.
- Must be flexible and willing to rotate campuses.
- Must be willing be undertake special assignments.
- This position requires reliable and consistent attendance.
- Adherence to FERPA Policy and Procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible clerical accounting experience which included duties such as responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and/or other accounting data; setting up computer spreadsheets to record, track, manipulate and report data; researching and interpreting financial data to prepare reports and respond to budget and accounts related inquiries; and reconciling accounts; OR one year as an Accounting Assistant III in Nevada State service which included clerical accounting duties as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous cash handling experience.
- Previous supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a diverse/multicultural student body and workforce.
- Experience work in higher education.
Scheduled weekly hours
The expected schedule is Monday - Friday 8 am to 5 pm. Some extended hours may be required during our peak periods.
Starting Salary
Grade 29, Step 1 $50,153.76
Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
