Accounting Technician: Procurement and Receivables Specialist
Job Description
Under limited supervision, this position exists to provide holistic, professional accounting leadership and management for the procurement process by providing recommendations and guidance to administrators, program managers and cost center managers. Manage the accounts receivable process for campus business services and bookstore. Oversee the student worker bi-weekly payroll processing while maintaining compliance within federal, state, and agency guidelines. Manage the student and third-party delinquency accounts ensuring prompt collections and guidelines are followed according to MN Department of Revenue (DOR) statutes. Provide back-up assistance within the business services area in order to maintain smooth and consistent functioning of the department and the services they offer.
Salary Range
$22.57-31.89/hr, $47,126-66,586 annually
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) sufficient to analyze, interpret and prepare financial information, records and reports; locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural or other fiscal problems. Knowledge of the Minnesota Accounting and Procurement System (MAPS), or other private or governmental accounting system, sufficient to query and compile records and reports, and assist with preparation and maintenance of spending plans, financial status reports and budget requests. Skills in math sufficient to calculate, review and reconcile data and balance accounts. Working knowledge of standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers in both written and verbal formats. Skill in customer service sufficient to provide prompt, courteous, and accurate information to a variety of customers over the phone, in person, and via email.
Preferred Qualification
Two-year accounting degree or four years of equivalent accounting experience. Analytical thinking and high attention to detail with ability to understand and effectively carry out complex oral and written directions. Time management and organizational skills sufficient to organize workload and meet deadlines while ensuring records are accurate and retrievable when necessary. Working knowledge of MinnState accounting system and reporting systems such as EPM11/Power BI and SWIFT (the MN Accounting and Procurement System). Working knowledge of laws, policies, procedures, and Legislative Auditor, Department of Finance, and State Treasurer requirements for completing assigned job responsibilities. Knowledge of data query functions and report development skills. Ability to multi-task and quickly adapt to changes in policies, processes, procedures and priorities. Ability to mentor, train and educate others during intense periods of change. Demonstrated high level of cultural competency and ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
