Accreditation Manager - University Police Department
SUMMARY
JOB DESCRIPTION
This is a professional position responsible for serving as the department's lead authority on accreditation and compliance programs, overseeing the Texas Police Chiefs Association Texas Best Practices Recognition Program and the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. Responsible for ensuring the department maintains compliance with applicable standards while advancing organizational effectiveness, accountability, and transparency. Works with command staff, supervisors, and administrative personnel to integrate accreditation standards into daily operations, policy development, and strategic planning. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Chief of Police.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, business administration, or a related field is required. Master’s degree in a related field is preferred. Related experience may be substituted for required education on a basis set forth by the Department of Human Resources.
Two years of related experience is required. Experience in compliance, auditing, policy management, accreditation, or a closely related field is required. Experience with law enforcement accreditation programs, including TCPA and or CALEA Certified Accreditation Manager through CALEA or similar credential is preferred. Experience with accreditation management systems such as PowerDMS is preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Administers and maintains accreditation through TCPA Texas Best Practices and CALEA programs.
- Maintains accreditation files, proofs of compliance, and associated documentation systems.
- Ensures department documentation is current, accurate, and audit-ready at all times.
- Ensures policies are practical, enforceable, and consistently applied across the organization by conducting periodic audits and inspections to verify adherence to standards across all divisions.
- Reviews, recommends, develops, and updates departmental policies and processes to align with accreditation standards and best practices.
- Monitors changes to accreditation standards and ensures timely departmental compliance.
- Oversees digital accreditation platforms such as PowerDMS or equivalent systems.
- Promotes a culture of accountability where accreditation is understood as a daily responsibility by
- Identifies gaps, risks, or areas of non-compliance and develops corrective action plans.
- Coordinates on-site and virtual assessments, including preparation of proofs, files, and staff readiness.
- Serves as the primary liaison with accreditation bodies, assessors, and program representatives.
- Works with supervisors to ensure personnel understand how their roles connect to compliance
- Advises command staff on accreditation implications for operations, risk management, and liability reduction.
- Assists in aligning accreditation standards with departmental strategic goals and initiatives.
- Supports inspections, audits, and external reviews related to departmental performance.
- Prepares reports for the Chief of Police and executive staff on accreditation status, risks, and progress.
- Tracks compliance metrics and trends that may indicate operational strengths or areas for improvement.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- May travel for accreditation training, conferences, or assessments.
