Description

The College of Science and Humanities at Husson University invites applications for a part-time adjunct faculty pool in Biology. This posting will remain open for up to one year to build a pool of qualified candidates who may be considered for future teaching opportunities as departmental needs arise.

The Biology program serves students pursuing careers in the biological sciences, healthcare professions, medicine, veterinary medicine, biotechnology, and related fields. We seek educators who are committed to student-centered teaching and helping students develop scientific knowledge, laboratory skills, critical thinking abilities, and an appreciation for the biological sciences.

Assignments may include day or evening courses and are expected to be delivered on Husson University's Bangor campus.

Example of Duties

Adjunct instructors in Biology may be considered to teach lecture and laboratory courses in the following areas:

  1. General Biology I (Cell and Molecular Biology) - Introductory courses examining the cellular and molecular foundations of life, including cell structure and function, genetics, metabolism, and biological processes common to living organisms.
  2. General Biology II (Organismal and Ecological Biology) - Introductory courses exploring organismal diversity, evolution, ecology, and the interactions between organisms and their environments.
  3. Cell Biology - Courses exploring the structure, function, and regulation of cells, including cellular communication, molecular mechanisms, gene expression, and contemporary topics in cell biology.
  4. Genetics - Courses examining the principles of heredity, gene expression, inheritance, molecular genetics, and modern applications of genetic science.
  5. Microbiology - Courses focused on the biology of microorganisms, including microbial physiology, genetics, diversity, ecology, and applications in healthcare and biotechnology.
  6. Anatomy and Physiology - Courses examining the structure and function of the human body, including organ systems and the physiological processes that maintain health and homeostasis.
  7. Human Biology - Courses introducing biological principles through the study of human systems, health, disease, and the relationship between humans and their environments.
  8. Ecology and Environmental Biology - Courses exploring ecological principles, population and community dynamics, ecosystems, conservation, and environmental change.
  9. Special Topics in Biology - Courses aligned with faculty expertise and departmental needs within the biological sciences.

Additional teaching opportunities may arise within the Biology curriculum. Applicants are encouraged to indicate areas of expertise, teaching interests, laboratory experience, and any specialized areas of biological science.

Qualifications

  • An earned Master's degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Environmental Science, Anatomy and Physiology, or a closely related discipline is required. A PhD or other terminal degree is preferred.
  • Successful college-level teaching experience is preferred.
  • Experience teaching laboratory courses and supervising student laboratory work is desirable for instruction in laboratory courses.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate scientific concepts effectively to undergraduate students.
  • Commitment to providing engaging, inclusive, and student-centered instruction.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty to support common course objectives, assessment practices, and student success initiatives.
