Position Summary
AUIB is seeking qualified local adjunct faculty based in Baghdad to teach introductory Core Liberal Arts (CLA) courses, with priority needs in:
- UNI101 – First Year University Experience
- Academic Writing / Composition
- Public Speaking / Communication
- Humanities (e.g., History, Ethics, Philosophy, Literature)
- Social Sciences (e.g., Psychology, Sociology)
This is a part-time, per-credit-hour position requiring in-person teaching on campus.
Adjunct faculty will contribute to AUIB’s mission of providing a strong liberal arts foundation by delivering high-quality, student-centered instruction in English-medium classrooms. Courses are delivered in English and fluency is required.
In addition to teaching assigned courses, successful candidates may have opportunities to propose and develop new introductory or interdisciplinary electives that support student success and expand the CLA curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach assigned courses using active, student-centered, and inclusive learning methods.
- Prepare course materials, syllabi, and assessments that align with program learning outcomes.
- Evaluate student performance fairly and promptly; provide constructive feedback to support learning.
- Hold office hours to provide guidance, mentoring, and academic assistance.
- Collaborate with colleagues to propose and design innovative courses across CLA disciplines.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Understanding of American Higher Education: Familiarity with the structure and processes of the American university system.
- Strong Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Time Management and Collaboration: Ability to manage time effectively and work well with others.
- Student Engagement: Skill in engaging and supervising students.
- Effective Teaching: Capable of simplifying complex ideas, creating engaging lectures, and fostering active learning.
Education and Experience
- Required Education: Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- Preferred Education: Ph.D. or terminal degree in the subject area.
- Experience: Prior university-level teaching experience strongly preferred; experience teaching in English-medium instruction is highly desirable.
- A minimum of one year of teaching experience
