Position Overview
Lasell University is seeking a qualified Adjunct Instructor to teach ECON101: Principles of Economics: Microeconomics as part of the University's Early College partnership with a private high school in Waltham, Massachusetts.
The successful candidate will teach a college-level introductory economics course to high school students participating in Lasell's Early College program. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced college instructor who enjoys working with emerging college students and bringing undergraduate-level business and economics concepts to a high school setting.
Course Description
ECON101: Principles of Economics: Microeconomics is an introduction to the principles of economic behavior of individuals, firms, and industries in a mixed economic system. Topics include consumer demand; elasticity; supply and costs of production; allocation of economic resources; international trade; and the role of government in promoting economic welfare.
Responsibilities
The adjunct instructor will:
- Deliver engaging, college-level instruction in microeconomics.
- Develop and deliver course materials consistent with Lasell University's course objectives and expectations.
- Create an engaging learning environment appropriate for high school students earning college credit.
- Assess student learning through assignments, examinations, projects, and other appropriate measures.
- Provide timely and substantive feedback to students.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and academic progress.
- Utilize Lasell University's Canvas learning management system.
- Communicate regularly with students and the Early College partnership team.
- Coordinate, as appropriate, with the partnering school's faculty and staff.
Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree or higher in Economics, Business, or a closely related field.
- College-level teaching experience in economics or a related discipline.
Preferred:
- Experience teaching introductory economics or microeconomics.
- Experience teaching high school, Early College, dual-enrollment, or other pre-college students.
- Experience with Canvas or another learning management system.
- Ability to make complex economic concepts accessible and engaging to students with varying levels of academic preparation.
Additional Information
This is a single-course adjunct teaching opportunity for the Fall semester. The instructor will teach the course in person at a private high school in Waltham, MA, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-7:15 p.m.
Compensation: $3,350 for the course.
