Job Description
Indiana University East invites applications for adjunct faculty to teach Public Speaking, a required general education course. Classes meet on campus two days per week (Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs) for 75 minutes each. Fall and spring semesters are 15 weeks. Faculty are needed on an ongoing basis, including the Fall 2022 semester, which begins August 22.
New adjunct faculty may attend a campus orientation to become familiar with university policies and are provided teaching resources including a Canvas course shell, multimedia content from the course e-text publisher, and syllabus template, among others.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Qualified applicants must be able to teach one to three courses per semester and travel to IUE's main campus in Richmond, Indiana two days per week. Faculty members are expected to communicate subject matter clearly, accurately, and effectively and to use methods, materials, and technology that are appropriate to the public speaking discipline and consistent with teaching best practices.
Instructors are further expected to manage courses by keeping accurate grade and attendance records, submitting grades and other reports by assigned dates, and collecting assessment data in cooperation with the Department of Communication Studies' Public Speaking Program Director.
All Indiana University faculty must also demonstrate the ability to develop professional rapport with the University's and host community's diverse populations.
Basic Qualifications
- Master's degree in Communication Studies, or master's degree in a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the Communication Studies discipline.
- Commitment to high-quality undergraduate teaching.
- Previous teaching experience.
