Position Title: Adjunct Instructor 1 - History

Location: Big Rapids (Main Campus)

Department: 33500 - Humanities

Advertised Salary: $1375 per credit hour taught. Salary commensurate with qualifications pursuant to the FSU and FNTFO/AFT agreement.

Summary of Position: The Humanities Department has a need for History instructors for the Fall 2024 and/or the Spring 2025 semesters to teach a wide variety of history courses on an as needed basis. Courses may include US History (survey courses) and/or Global History. This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis. For in-person or hybrid teaching positions: Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment. For 100% online teaching positions: Courses are to be taught online. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan, Illinois (excluding Chicago), Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Ohio, or Wisconsin after acceptance of employment. The anticipated start date of this position is August 2024 at the earliest and January 2025 at the latest.

Position Type: Faculty - Temporary & Continuing

Required Education: Master's degree in History OR Master's degree in another field with 18 graduate credits of coursework in history.

Required Work Experience: Prior teaching experience at the high school level or higher.

Physical Demands: Office Environment, Bending, Carrying, Moving, Reaching, Sitting, Twisting, Lifting, Pulling/Pushing, Repetitive movement, Standing

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Teaching experience in higher education, preferred.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Teach assigned courses. Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members. Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives. Any other duties assigned within the position classification area. Faculty members also have professional responsibilities, which may include but are not limited to keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students) and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (i.e. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.
