Adjunct Instructors – Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC-R)

Adjunct instructors teach courses on a term basis. Responsibilities include teaching in a blended format, maintaining currency in the field, and reporting to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Adjuncts adhere to all policies and procedures.

CC PREP's HVAC-R course includes credentials such as entry-level technician certification, EPA Section 608 and 609 certifications, and Occupational Safety and Health Standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Instruction and Facilitating Learning: Teach using various methods, develop course content, incorporate real-world examples, encourage participation, and provide feedback.
• Managing Learning: Implement curriculum aligned to outcomes, adhere to schedules, monitor progress, and handle administrative tasks.
• Student Engagement: Provide office hours, create a supportive environment, encourage interaction, and solicit feedback.
• Organizational Engagement: Collaborate with teams, stay updated on industry trends, participate in professional development, and foster continuous learning.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience and credentials.
• Five years of work experience in HVAC-R.
• Three years of teaching experience in adult settings.
• Experience with instructional design and technology, or willingness to learn.
• Proficiency in common technology applications.
• Ability to build collaborative relationships and give/receive feedback.
• Commitment to lifelong learning and student success.

Working Conditions

This position is based in Washington, D.C., and may require travel, attending events, and teaching evenings or weekends.

Physical Requirements

• Able to stand for extended periods.
• Able to lift heavy objects (approximately 25 lbs.).
• Able to perform repetitive tasks with few breaks.
