Adjunct Instructor, Phlebotomy

This position provides instructional support (development and/or delivery) for the Phlebotomy program. This position will report to the Director of Allied Health Programs.

The job responsibilities are performed in an office area and presentation venues. Travel by car required. The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (8 - 45 pounds). Typically requires regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity and long duration. Must meet reasonable deadlines, quotas or demands for accuracy, and, may be involved in some mildly unpleasant situations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), from an accredited college or university with a certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist OR Associate degree in an Allied Health program from an accredited college or university, and a current certification in Phlebotomy.
  • Minimum of two (2) years full-time employment in the field of Clinical Laboratory Science.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully engage with others on a project or program.
  • Demonstrate ability to apply the principles of continuous quality improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Community college or Associate degree level teaching experience in MLT or related subject.
  • Experience in educational leadership.
  • Experience with instructional design theory and methods.
  • Experience with instructional technology.
  • Experience with Moodle or other web-based teaching/learning platforms.

Job Duties

  • Assume leadership for all aspects of the Phlebotomy program.
  • Identify equipment, program improvement and professional development strategies.
  • Seek out collaborative partnerships with local Business and Industry, K-12 school systems and other post-secondary educational institutions in efforts to enhance enrollment and provide rich and efficient learning experiences for students.
  • Maintain continuous quality improvement processes to assure program effectiveness. Develop strategies intended to address student success, cost efficiency.
  • Provide instruction to students in accordance with college policies and practices.
  • Coordinate clinical education and evaluate its effectiveness.
  • Correlate clinical education with didactic education.
  • Collaborate with clinical administrators and preceptors to support student learning outcomes.
  • Maintain current and relevant teaching expertise in content topics required in the NACCLS accredited curriculum.
  • Assume teaching assignments at all College locations and within all College hours of operation.
  • Reach out to advise, mentor and remediate students in needs.
  • Submit student grades and class records according to the determined deadlines.
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends in the professional discipline and of best practice in educational methodologies through continuing professional development.
  • Participate in institutional training in online teaching/learning and in instructional design/delivery.
