Job Summary

Adjunct Positions are filled by semester on an as needed basis. Applicants in this applicant pool are reviewed when the department has an immediate need to fill a vacancy. Review of applications will then stop for the semester once the vacancy has been filled. Adjunct (part-time) faculty to teach courses in American Sign Language and/or Interpreting. Depending upon the program’s needs and the candidate’s qualifications, teaching assignments may be on LCC’s downtown campus, and/or via online delivery methods. Adjunct faculty are expected to work collaboratively with department faculty to develop course content consistent with official course syllabi, to deliver course instruction to students and to be available for student assistance and advising outside of class. Additional responsibilities may include participation in course assessment, department/program meetings, professional development activities and other duties as assigned. Must demonstrate a commitment to the diversity of a multi-cultural population, as well as work effectively in a team-based environment, seeking continuous improvement and adherence to the community college philosophy. Regular on campus presence is expected for all LCC employment. Any flexible work schedules and/or hybrid work schedules approved by the College are subject to change based on the needs of the LCC community.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university in Sign Language or in any field with a minimum of 18 semester / 27 quarter hours coursework in the discipline. ASL skills (Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing), or State or National Interpreter Certification. Certifications include BEI Basic with a minimum of 3 years of interpreting experience, BEI Advanced, BEI Master, EIPA 4.0+, ASLTA, NIC, NIC Advanced, NIC Master, CI/CT, CSC, CDI (Certified Deaf Interpreter). Alternative Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university in any field; ASLPI 3+ or higher, SLPI Intermediate Plus or higher, CDI (Certified Deaf Interpreter), or three years of teaching experience; ASL skills (Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing). IMPORTANT: If an educational degree is required for this position, unofficial copies of transcripts from each institution of higher learning where either a degree has been conferred or coursework completed are required documents that must be submitted as part of the online application process. Applicants with foreign education credentials (i.e. earned degree and related to this position) must contact a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) credential evaluation services (www.naces.org) and request an academic transcript evaluation. Three of NACES member credential evaluation services are: Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. (https://www.ece.org/); World Education Services, Inc.(https://www.wes.org/); International Education Research Foundation, Inc. (https://ierf.org/). The credential evaluation must be submitted with the application materials. Coursework information, if applicable, must be added as an attachment under Additional Attachments. REMEMBER: If an educational degree is required for this position, applications lacking these required documents will not be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Sign Language or related field and a minimum of 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) of graduate-level coursework in the discipline. Previous college teaching experience.
