Adjunct Instructor - Surgical Technology
Job Description Summary
Adjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the on-going development of instructional strategies that promote student success.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Learning Facilitation: Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Employ learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, such as hybrid, in-person, virtual, and on-line course delivery.
- Assessment: Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful. Use data to measure quality outcomes related to course success and learning, and implement improvement strategies based on the evidence.
- Classroom Management: Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/engagement evaluation.
- Team Participation: Support the college by engaging with the department, as well as staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
- Business & Community Engagement: Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners. Proactively promote the College and our programs.
- Student Success & Support: Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful.
- Professional Development: Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, and current employment in the field. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.
- Curriculum Development: Develop curriculum and instructional materials that are competency-based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with the college policy on the level of required documentation.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree or the degree/licensure level at which the adjunct instructor is teaching at a minimum (Bachelor's degree preferred). Minimum of five years' experience in the operating room in the scrub role (One year of related occupational experience may be waived with at least two years of experience as an instructor of surgical technology within past 5 years.). Prior teaching or training experience is preferred. Must also meet and maintain Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements, Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS), and/or other job-specific licensing standards.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements
Surgical technology-specific credential that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA) such as Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), the National Board of Surgical Technologist (NBST), and/or the Joint Certified Surgical technologist/Certified Surgical First Assistant (CST/CSFA) Credential required. Clinical Documentation requirements need to be met and maintained. Proficiency utilizing learning management systems. Strong verbal communication skills. Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs. Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences. Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods. Prior to hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Mobility: The ability to move around the classroom, instructional, or clinical space, including walking between students' desks or workstations. Work will be completed in a hybrid environment, both in person and virtually.
Hourly pay rate: $45.00 per hour.
