Description

NYU Steinhardt Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions (MPAP) Piano Studies Program seeks qualified candidates to teach in the following fields:

Piano Literature, 18th-19th Centuries: (Graduate Level)This course traces the keyboard repertoire through an examination of core genres, ranging from the binary Baroque sonata to its Classical and Romantic descendents, considering the evolution of the concerto, impromptu, etude, and character piece. Composers discussed will include Scarlatti, Soler, Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Liszt, Schumann, Brahms, and Debussy. The class will emphasize the historical and aesthetic analysis of the development of Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Impressionist piano literature. Landmark works are studied to reconstruct and analyze the development of harmonic practices, genres, and styles. Students demonstrate their knowledge of the repertoire in research papers, related written assignments, and listening exams. Student performance in class is required. 

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the contact hour rate for this position is $222.27. This rate is based on the collective bargaining agreement with Local 7902.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate in Music (Piano Preferred)
