Overview
THIS IS A TEMPORARY, HOURLY AS NEEDED POSITION WITHOUT PERMANENT STATUS.
This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary assignments as the need arises. You will be contacted by the hiring manager should the department/division be interested in scheduling an interview.
We are seeking dedicated and experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) to join our team as adjunct Vocational Nursing faculty. This role involves teaching both theory and clinical rotations, directly impacting the development of future nursing professionals.
Responsibilities: Deliver engaging and effective instruction in theory and clinical settings. Provide comprehensive supervision and guidance to nursing students during clinical rotations, ensuring a supportive learning environment. Adhere strictly to all policies and regulations set forth by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT) of California, including remaining present with students throughout all scheduled theory and clinical hours. Actively contribute to the development, maintenance, and revision of the nursing curriculum.
Minimum Qualifications
A. The minimum of one of the following awarded/conferred from a regionally accredited institution:
- Master’s in Nursing; OR
- Bachelor’s in Nursing AND Master’s in Health Education or Health Science OR Equivalent qualifications; OR
- Minimum qualifications established by the California Board of Registered Nursing - An unencumbered California RN nursing license - Active BLS certification (American Heart Association) - A minimum of two (2) years professional experience as a registered nurse within last five years in the area of Maternal-Newborn Nursing/Obstetric Nursing • With at least (1) year’s continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nursing in the designated nursing area; OR
- One (1) academic year of register nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrated clinical competency in Maternal-Newborn Nursing/Obstetric Nursing • Labor & Delivery • Postpartum • Antepartum • Newborn Nursery • Maternal-Newborn Couplet Care - Competence in clinical skills in areas of teaching - Competent in personal computer applications: word processing, and email
AND B. Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Communicate effectively to students orally and in writing.
- Candidates must demonstrate flexibility in scheduling, as clinical assignments may vary by session and include weekdays, weekends, or night shifts depending on the specialty and facility
- Demonstrated ability to effectively fulfill teaching responsibilities across classroom, clinical, and laboratory settings
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
—Teaching and Curriculum Implementation— 1. Mentor, role model and facilitator who provides guidance and academic support for students in person at an inpatient clinical setting 3. Demonstrating enthusiasm for teaching, the teaching/learning process 4. Implement the College’s philosophy, curriculum, program outcomes, and course objectives through clinical teaching 5. Assume responsibility for all autonomous aspects of individual teaching loads 6. Plan clinical experiences and provide direct supervision and evaluation of nursing students 7. Applying your skills and experience to your assigned teaching schedule 8. Utilizing a variety of teaching methodologies to instruct students, always with intent to facilitate observable evidence of student fulfillment of prescribed learning outcomes 9. Excellent written and oral communication skills 10. Evaluate clinical assignments, assessing knowledge base, skill competency and individual learning needs 11. Correct and return clinical assignments and clinical paperwork, and other written work in a timely manner 12. Evaluate and provide documented feedback on performance to students based on course objectives 13. Provide feedback of clinical performance immediately after observation of event and of overall performance at midterm and end of semester 14. Be available for remediation of students as required or needed
—Clinical Coordination— 15. Orient and maintain current knowledge related to clinical site policies, procedures, and expectations with the assistance of the clinical site personnel 16. Assume complete responsibility for students in clinical facilities and clarify clinical expectations 17. Clarify student placement and expectations with clinical facility staff 18. Make patient/student assignments that meet both clinical objectives and patient needs 19. Maintain visibility while staying available to staff and students at the clinical site 20. Clarify student placement and expectations with clinical facility staff 21. Provide immediate feedback of clinical performance following observation of skills 22. Facilitate pre-conferences to clarify daily clinical expectations with students 23. Facilitate post-conferences to allow students an opportunity to share learned experiences, ensuring clarity of the correlation between weekly theory content with clinical objectives and experiences 24. May teach simulation/skills lab content under supervision of course coordinator
—Professionalism and Collaboration— 25. Serve as a professional role model for other faculty, staff, and students 26. Utilize relationship skills in situations requiring group problem solving, consensus building, and win-win negotiation 27. Work with college administration, staff, and other faculty members to improve the overall operation of the college and student satisfaction rates
—Regulatory Compliance and Reporting— 28. Comply with all applicable regulatory rules and standards 29. Keep the lead instructor informed of all student and agency issues and concerns 30. Handle related duties and perform other duties as assigned, comply with all policies and standards
