Admissions Counselor
Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to function as an Admissions Counselor for the office. This position will recruit and cultivate prospects, applicants, and admitted students through direct participation in a variety of activities, articulate admissions procedures and requirements to prospective students, parents and counselors, evaluate credentials and make independent decisions regarding individuals’ candidacies for admission to UNCG, and positively affect admitted students’ decisions to matriculate to UNCG.
Minimum Qualifications
- A relevant Bachelor’s degree, outstanding public speaking skills, excellent computer skills, and a valid driver’s license are required for this position.
- The position requires the ability to make independent decisions when interpreting policy and to make research based decisions regarding the potential for success of specific recruitment initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment (40%): Recruiting and cultivating prospects, applicants, and admitted students through direct participation in a variety of activities including visiting high schools and community colleges, attending college job fairs, sponsoring special recruitment events, sending email/writing letters/placing calls to students, executing and managing a geographic territory, traveling extensively, and speaking publicly to audiences up to 2,500 people.
Counseling (25%): Providing admitted students information on completing the enrollment process and counseling students on how to improve their academic record.
Admissions Decisions (25%): Articulating admissions procedures and requirements, evaluating credentials and making independent decisions regarding individuals’ candidacies for admission, and positively affecting admitted students’ decisions to matriculate to UNCG.
