Admissions Counselor
Summary of Responsibilities
The Admission Counselor is responsible for increasing the enrollment of qualified undergraduate students and meeting yearly enrollment goals for Schreiner University. Each counselor manages an assigned territory and is expected to grow inquiries, applicants, interviews, campus visits, and commitments within that area and other areas assigned. This position requires extensive travel throughout the year and consistent communication with prospective students and families. Responsibilities include developing leads, achieving territory goals, visiting feeder high schools and community colleges, attending college day/night programs, and hosting on-campus visits. The Admission Counselor will also work closely with the marketing department to implement recruitment and marketing strategies that support enrollment goals and Schreiner’s brand awareness initiatives. Tele-counseling and other proactive outreach efforts are essential for generating leads during peak recruiting seasons. The Admission Counselor communicates the features and benefits of attending Schreiner University, a four-year liberal arts institution, and demonstrates how financial aid provides access to such an education.
Essential Functions
- Manage an assigned recruitment territory to meet enrollment goals through inquiries, applications, visits, and commitments.
- Visit high schools, community colleges, and attend college fairs within and other assigned territories.
- Represent Schreiner at recruitment events, receptions, and community programs.
- Build strong relationships with guidance counselors, community partners, and alumni to expand Schreiner’s reach.
- Advise prospective students and families on admissions requirements, Schreiner’s academic offerings, and financial aid opportunities.
- Maintain regular contact with prospective students via phone, email, text, social media, and in-person meetings.
- Persuasively communicate the value of Schreiner’s education and student experience.
- Evaluate transcripts and ensure all required documents are complete for admission.
- Coordinate with admissions and financial aid staff to ensure smooth student matriculation.
- Track and report on inquires, applications, and enrollment progress within the assigned territory.
- Assist in planning and execution of on-campus recruiting events (e.g., Schreiner Saturday, campus visits).
- Contribute to marketing initiatives through promotional strategies and recruitment materials.
- Maintain the highest level of confidentiality concerning all matters in the Office of Admission and Financial Aid and adhere to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
- Other duties as assigned by your supervisor and the Associate Director of Admission
Other Functions
Frequent overnight travel for approximately eight (8) weeks throughout the year is expected. The position requires the ability to work evenings and partial weekends as needed for success. Always represent Schreiner University in a professional and ethical manner.
Education, Experience and Skills Required
- Four-year college degree or higher preferred
- Bilingual English and Spanish preferred
- Willingness to work weekends and weekend hours to meet job requirements.
- Strong computer skills required. Must be able to use the Internet, and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Calendar).
- Ability to use social media platforms strategically for student engagement and recruitment.
- Demonstrated proficiency using a customer relationship management (CRM) system.
- Possess an enthusiastic and positive attitude with a strong desire to serve others.
- Possess extensive job knowledge in college admission-related work and understand its role in serving the institutional mission.
- Comfortable presenting to large and small groups (students, families, counselors).
- Ability and willingness to travel.
- Ability to set goals, organize and prioritize daily activities, exercise necessary follow-up, and be detail-oriented.
- Ability to work independently to meet job requirements.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments (marketing, financial aid, athletics, faculty)
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster partnerships with high school counselors and community organizations.
- Convey understanding and persuasively communicate the value of Schreiner’s education to various constituencies.
- Sales ability to “close.”
- Use of sound judgment, maturity, and responsibility.
- Driving is required; therefore, the candidate must have a valid Texas driver’s license, related insurance, and a good driving record.
