Emporia State University is seeking an energetic, student-focused professional to serve as an Admissions Counselor. This position plays a critical role in achieving the university's enrollment goals by recruiting prospective students, building relationships with families and school partners, and guiding students through the college search and admissions process.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor serves as the primary contact for prospective students and families within an assigned recruitment territory. The successful candidate will represent Emporia State University through high school visits, college fairs, on-campus events, and individualized outreach while helping students discover the educational opportunities available at ESU. This position requires extensive relationship-building, effective communication, and a commitment to student success. Travel is required, particularly during the fall and spring recruitment seasons.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Counsel prospective students and their families regarding the admissions process, admission decisions, transfer credit, academic programs, financial resources, and university services. Serve as the primary recruiter for an assigned territory, building and maintaining relationships with prospective students, families, high school counselors, and community partners. Represent Emporia State University at high school visits, college fairs, community events, and other recruitment activities. Participate in on-campus recruitment programs and admissions events designed to engage prospective students and families. Collaborate with Marketing and Admissions staff to develop and execute communication plans, including drip campaigns, calling campaigns, and other recruitment initiatives. Utilize CRM and enrollment management systems to communicate with prospective students and manage recruitment activities. Conduct daily admissions office activities, including individual appointments, phone consultations, presentations, and campus visitor engagement. Collaborate with campus departments to support enrollment initiatives and ensure prospective students receive accurate and timely information. Participate in professional development opportunities, conferences, workshops, and professional organizations as appropriate. QUALIFICATIONS
A successful candidate must possess a bachelor's degree.
Candidates should also possess:
A minimum of one year of full-time experience in admissions, recruitment, higher education, or a related field. A valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one by the start date. Willingness and ability to travel extensively during recruitment seasons. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with student information systems. Excellent interpersonal, presentation, organizational, and communication skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience using Target X and Banner. Full-time admissions, recruitment, academic advising, or transfer student experience. Experience working in a higher education setting. SALARY
$48,000 annually.
