Adult Basic Skills (ABS) Instructor (Updated)
Adult Basic Skills (ABS) Instructor is a full-time, 12-month position located primarily in Union County, but duties may extend to Anson County including off-campus locations. Under the direction of the ESOL Director, the ABS Instructor will be responsible for providing basic literacy skills in reading, writing, and math instruction to assist adult learners in learning the English language or earning a high school equivalency diploma. Instructor focus will also include assisting those learners who are eligible with acquiring the skills necessary to effectively transition into post-secondary educational opportunities and/or employment.

Essential Duties Summary
- Plan and facilitate standards-based lessons in core academic subjects (Reading, Language Arts, Math) and English language acquisition for adult learners, aligning instruction with NC Adult Education Content Standards and CASAS Competencies to support high school equivalency and/or essential life skills
- Use technology to support instruction virtually and in person
- Communicate academic material in a positive and appropriate learning environment
- Provide direct instruction, small group and individualized educational activities for students
- Confer with program directors, HSE and ESOL, on a regular basis to assess and meet instructional needs
- Maintain accurate student registration and attendance tracking data as required
- Participate in institutional, advisory, and program/instructional committee meetings
- Assist in planning, development, implementation, evaluation and assessment of new, modified or existing procedures, courses and curriculum in ABS programs.
- Assist in the following areas when needed:
- Student recruitment and retention rates
- Marketing and recruitment events
- Support new hires in mentoring and co-teaching
- Substitute teach, as necessary, when available
- Accept teaching assignments based on the needs of the college at one or more of the following: Anson County campuses; Union County campuses; community locations.
- Commit to ongoing professional development to improve instructional skills, stay current with adult education trends, and adapt to evolving program needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the ESOL Director and Adult Basic Skills Executive Director
