JOB SUMMARY
The Adult Education Workforce Instructor provides services within the college’s five (5) county service area consisting of Bradley, Polk, Meigs, McMinn and Monroe Counties. The Workforce Instructor is responsible for assisting the Adult Education Program Director in providing a program-wide educational atmosphere where adult students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential by earning a high school equivalency diploma, improving basic skills in math, language, science, social studies, and reading, and or showing level gain through the levels defined by the National Reporting System (NRS) and assisting students in resume writing, career exploration, and career pathways. The instructor will also work with incarcerated individuals in all service area jails.
Instructional duties may include direct teaching, testing, orientation, counseling students, resume writing, career planning and other instructional activities working directly with the students as assigned by the Program Director.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICIATIONS
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, Science, Math, or Human Services from a regionally accredited institution
- Candidate must possess an active TN Teacher’s License (or approved waiver)
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Adult Education in instruction or curriculum and/or student support.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Plan, teach, and evaluate student work.
- Keep current with all curriculum changes set forth by the Adult Education Division
- Implement and monitor classroom instructional activities to ensure a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
- Assist in assessing changing curricular needs and plans for improvement using the current curriculum developed by TN Labor & Workforce Development (TDLWD) Adult Education Division. Provide training for these changes.
- Conduct and or Monitor staff in presenting Adult Education Orientation and Testing using standardized testing.
- Monitor teacher and staff record keeping, ensuring that effective and efficient record keeping procedures are maintained through JOBS4TN.
- Travel to satellite and jail locations in all 5 counties will be necessary.
- Participate in local and state activities/staff development.
- Able to work a split schedule including up to two evenings per week.
- Supervision of classes at off-site locations
- Promote a positive environment throughout the program so that students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
- Model professional and ethical standards while dealing with students, staff, and community.
- Assume responsibility for meeting performance goals in his/her course and assist teachers in meeting program-wide goals set by the National Reporting System.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (5%)
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director.

- Comfortable with preparing and presenting information for small and large groups.
WORK ACTIVITIES & EQUIPMENT
Work activities routinely involve work with personal computers and peripheral devices. Due to the nature of the position, a valid driver’s license is required for operating a vehicle.
JOB LOCATION
The position requires travel to all 5-county jails in the service area in addition to required travel to off-campus satellite locations. This position may require some evening/weekend hours. This position is primarily in-person, but occasional remote work may be required.
