Are you passionate about emerging technology, robotics, and real-world innovation? We're offering a rare opportunity to take the lead in operating and maintaining AUT's newest robotic systems.
As the Advanced Robotics Technician, you'll play a key role in bringing AUT's technology ambitions to life specifically with these cutting-edge assets. From supporting research and development to facilitating engaging demonstrations and educational experiences, your work will ensure these assets are reliable, safe, and always ready to work.
This is a unique role where you'll combine hands-on technical skills with creativity and communication. You'll be the go-to person for the operations of these robots, handling minor repairs, programming updates, and operational readiness. You'll also work directly with international manufacturers to keep things running smoothly.
Qualifications and experience
This is a graduate-level position, suitable for graduates who meet the requirements outlined below:
A Bachelor's degree, preferably in Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer and Information Sciences, or a related discipline. Applicants should have completed relevant robotics, automation, or embedded systems coursework or project work as part of their degree, or have equivalent practical experience.
Proficiency in Python and/or C++ are highly desirable. A current New Zealand driver's licence is required. Candidates with fluency in mandarin will be given preference due to the need to communicate with overseas suppliers and manufacturers.
Ngā haepapa matua | Key Responsibilities
- Maintain AUT's newest robotic systems in a state of operational readiness through regular servicing and checks.
- Develop and test new robot behaviours and updates using Python and/or C++.
- Act as the certified operator for demonstrations.
- Coordinate with the manufacturer for technical troubleshooting, updates, and parts.
- Manage security, storage, and inventory of these robotic assets and spare parts.
- Support training of other staff in basic robot operation and safety protocols for these new systems.
- Ensure all activities align with AUT's robotics safety procedures and risk management guidelines.
