Job Description

This position is located at the Southern Piedmont Agricultural Research and Extension Center, located in Blackstone, Virginia. The position will provide support as an agricultural technician by collecting research information and maintaining research plots, including planting, irrigating, cultivating, and harvesting, as well as, lab work with samples and assisting with scoring for pest damage and data handling. Duties include driving back and forth between research plots both on and off the AREC grounds to carry out these tasks.

Required Qualifications

• Experience and/or education in agriculture or basic science.
• Experience working in adverse weather conditions.
• Must have valid driver's license and safe driving record.
• Must be 18 or older to apply.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with tobacco, forage, livestock, row crop, and/or vegetable production.
• Knowledge of duties required in the production and research of crops in fields, greenhouses, and laboratories.
• Experience with Molecular assays involving DNA/ RNA extraction, qPCR, data collection and entry.

Pay Band: 1

Overtime Status: Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime

Appointment Type: Restricted

Salary Information: $15.00 - $18.00/hr

Hours per week: approx. 29 hours per week / 1500 hours per year
