AI Enablement Consultant - Computing Services
AI Enablement Consultant - Computing Services
Carnegie Mellon University has been shaping the field of artificial intelligence since the very beginning. But having world-class AI research doesn't automatically mean everyone knows how to use these tools in their daily work. That's where you come in.
Computing Services, the central IT group, needs someone who can help faculty, staff, and students use AI to enable them more productive. You'll partner with teams across the university to uncover where AI can make a real difference, then help them get there through training, consultation, and hands-on support. Think of it as translating what's possible into what's practical.
Are you energized by helping people learn new things? Do you get excited when someone finally "gets it"? We'd love to talk.
What You'll Do:
You'll work as part of our AI Enablement Team, helping shape and communicate the vision for how AI services roll out across the university. But this isn't a strategy-only role - most of your time will be spent in the field, working directly with campus partners.
That means leading discovery sessions to identify where AI can help, discovering and evaluating new AI tools, documenting workflows and requirements, and guiding teams through adoption. You'll become the go-to expert on the AI tools available to our community, developing training programs, running workshops, hosting office hours, and mentoring colleagues who want to build their skills. When people hit roadblocks - whether it's a complex technical issue or just not knowing where to start - you'll help them find a path forward.
You'll also help us build the infrastructure for sustainable adoption: documentation, toolkits, communications, feedback loops, and metrics that show what's actually working. And you'll stay connected to what's happening in the broader AI landscape, bringing back insights that help us improve.
What You'll Bring:
We're looking for someone with progressive experience in product or service delivery, ideally in a university or technical environment. You've supported AI tool rollouts, adoption efforts, or platform integrations - and you understand that technology only matters if people actually use it.
You're a natural communicator. Whether it's a workshop for 50 people or a one-on-one mentoring session, you know how to meet people where they are and help them build confidence in the solutions that work for them. You can translate technical capabilities into business value, and you're comfortable facilitating discovery conversations that surface real needs.
You have a foundational understanding of IT service management (ITIL or similar) and experience gathering business requirements. Certifications in cloud/AI platforms or process improvement methodologies are a plus, but we care more about what you've done than what's on your wall.
A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
