Job Summary:

About the Air Balancer Position:

The Air Balancer position falls within UW-Madison’s Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M), Physical Plant Department. The incumbent in this role will collaborate closely with digital control specialists, air balancers, fume hood program, and mechanical system experts to optimize the performance of complex mechanical systems across campus.

The primary duties of this role include recommissioning, field work, project development, fault detection analysis, mechanical design, fume hood program management, and other methodologies on a wide range of mechanical systems. This position involves extensive field work focused on troubleshooting and developing solutions for mechanical issues related to facility maintenance.

This position is a full-time position with a 100% FTE.

Hours generally scheduled Monday-Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm. Occasional nights, weekends, and holidays may be required for this position.

The Division of Facilities Planning& Management (FP&M) is a full-spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of UW-Madison in the university's education, research, and outreach activities. Additional Information:

This position may require working in or around animal facilities on campus. Those working in or around animal facilities are required to complete an annual safety training and personnel medical evaluation form to gain clearance. Some areas have additional requirements for entry, including a TB test with negative results and measles titer test. We will provide trainings that will address hazards as well as how to safely perform job duties by, for example, following signage and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs scheduled preventative and routine maintenance and documents activity on equipment and systems to ensure optimal and safe operation
  • Collaborates with and assists contractors as needed
  • Monitors, tests, maintains, and repairs building control systems and related equipment according to established policies and procedures
  • Receives, prioritizes, and responds to service requests according to established timelines and policies
  • Identifies, troubleshoots, triages, and escalates system problems, equipment malfunctions and repair needs

Compensation:

$43.00/hour minimum

The minimum hourly rate for this position is $43.00, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Required Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of experience in a position as a Test, Adjust and Balance (TAB) technician
  • TB test with negative results and measles titer test
  • Experience with mechanical systems, facility maintenance/construction, electronics or controls, or related areas
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of proper safety precautions appropriate to the construction trades

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years experience with testing, adjusting, and commissioning fume hoods

Education:

  • Associate's Degree (Required); Related Technical Field
  • Bachelor's Degree (Preferred, not Required); Mechanical Engineering
