Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Technical school training or three (3) years of HVAC employment/field experience.
- EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
- Working knowledge of HVAC controls, electrical systems, and refrigeration principles.
- Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control-related equipment issues.
- Ability to read and follow technical instructions and maintenance procedures.
- Available and willing to work after-hours on-call duty, on a rotating basis with other shop personnel
- Currently hold or have the ability to obtain a drivers license within 90 days of employment?
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a university, government, or large institutional environment.
- Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS), such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, or Schneider Electric.
- Additional certifications such as HVAC Excellence, NATE, or trade licenses.
- Knowledge of energy management and sustainability practices.
Job Description
The University is seeking a skilled and motivated HVAC Technician II to join our Facilities Services team. This mid-level position is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems across academic buildings, laboratories, residence halls, athletic facilities, and administrative spaces.
Job Duties
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues involving chillers, boilers, pumps, air handlers, VAV systems, cooling towers, and building automation systems (BAS).
- Install, replace, and repair HVAC equipment, motors, controls, thermostats, and related components.
- Monitor and adjust building environmental systems to maintain occupant comfort and operational efficiency.
- Respond to service requests and emergency maintenance calls in a timely manner.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment condition.
- Assist with campus energy conservation initiatives and sustainability programs.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with applicable safety regulations, codes, and University policies.
- Collaborate with other Facilities Services personnel, contractors, and campus stakeholders.
