"AISIR Research Center Faculty Director"

The Artificial Intelligence, Smart Infrastructure and Robotics (AISIR) Research Center at American University of Sharjah (AUS), United Arab Emirates, invites applications for a full-time AISIR Research Center faculty Director position. The successful candidate will have a specialization in a relevant field of Artificial Intelligence, Smart Infrastructure, and Robotics, and will hold a faculty appointment in one of the relevant departments. The Director will report directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and collaborate with university leadership to align the center’s activities with institutional and national priorities.

The AISIR Research Center builds on AUS’s strong interdisciplinary foundation across its colleges. It aligns research goals with national and regional priorities for applied AI, focusing on areas like machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, robotics, autonomous systems, smart digital infrastructure, and related ethics and business strategies. The center encourages collaboration to deliver innovative solutions for challenges facing the UAE and global community.

Research opportunities include foundational AI research and applications in smart city management, autonomous systems for transportation, IoT-powered infrastructure, and ethical frameworks for AI and robotics in healthcare, business, and urban development.

The center enhances undergraduate and graduate programs at AUS, such as BSc in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Intelligent Systems and Mechatronics, Mathematics, MSc in Machine Learning, Mechatronics Engineering, PhD in Engineering Systems Management, and upcoming programs like PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering and BSc in Data Science.

AISIR fosters partnerships with academic, governmental, and industry stakeholders, including the Sharjah Research, Technology, and Innovation Park, to align research with priorities and secure funding and commercialization opportunities.

The Director will provide leadership to establish strategy, define priorities, foster innovation, secure research funding, publish in high-impact journals, build partnerships, mentor faculty and students, oversee administrative operations, ensure compliance, and may teach courses in their expertise.

Candidates must hold a PhD in a relevant discipline like Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields, with specializations in AI, Robotics, Machine Learning, etc. They should demonstrate academic leadership, administrative experience, expertise in securing grants, managing teams, and contributing to high-impact journals.
