Alumni Advisor
The Part-Time Alumni Adviser is a key member of the Liberty LEADS team, reports to Director, and is responsible for supporting college persistence and success among program alumni in their first and second years of college. This role also includes select engagement with high school juniors and seniors to foster early relationships and support their transition to college. The ideal candidate is passionate about youth development, college access, and student retention.
Salary: $27,500 annually
Responsibilities:
College Student Support
- Provide individualized guidance and mentorship to Liberty LEADS alumni who are college freshmen and sophomores.
- Conduct regular virtual or in-person check-ins to assess students' academic, social, and personal adjustment to college life.
- Assist students in accessing campus resources such as financial aid, academic advising, counseling, and tutoring services.
- Offer coaching on time management, goal setting, study strategies, and self-advocacy.
- Track students' academic progress and identify early warning signs of academic or personal challenges.
- Provide one-on-one advising to first-year alumni considering transferring colleges, as well as to non-traditional aged alumni applying to college.
High School Engagement
- Attend designated high school events-particularly those involving juniors and seniors-to begin building rapport and offering insight into the college experience.
- Support and participate in college transition workshops or related activities in collaboration with high school program staff.
Alumni Networking & Engagement
- Collaborate with the Director to create and coordinate an Alumni Board composed of professional Liberty LEADS alumni from diverse career fields.
- Identify, recruit, and onboard alumni leaders committed to supporting the mission of Liberty LEADS.
- Support the development of the board's mission, structure, roles, and operating procedures.
- Work with the board to plan and implement activities that promote networking, mentorship, career exploration, and community involvement for current students and recent graduates.
Alumni Engagement & Events:
- Organize and support the planning of alumni events, including the Winter Conference, Spring Dinner, and Cookout.
- Collaborate with the Alumni Board to develop professional development workshops, networking sessions, and service opportunities.
- Maintain consistent communication with alumni to strengthen long-term relationships, gather updates, and involve them in program initiatives.
Program Administration
- Maintain and update student records and program data for evaluation and reporting purposes and assist in the preparation of reports for funders.
- Attend weekly staff meetings and contribute to team planning and coordination as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work, psychology, youth development, or a related field.
- Previous experience supporting high school and college students.
- Familiarity with the college application process, college transition challenges, and campus support structures.
- Experience coordinating events, workshops, or group activities.
Required Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with young adults from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain accurate records, and meet deadlines.
- Skilled in mentoring, problem-solving, and providing guidance around academic and personal challenges.
- Comfort with virtual platforms (Zoom, Google Meet, etc.) and basic data management tools.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
