Overview

By studying the past with an eye to the present, students of the American Studies course at the Rutgers University develop the knowledge and skills to analyze the politics, history and culture of the Americas and engage with diverse audiences. Our students produce work that reaches beyond academic audiences and contributes to the pressing conversations of how to achieve justice in our time.

Learning Objectives

Train in the theory and methodology of interdisciplinary study
Learn and practice research skills enabling them to create new knowledge that draws upon and contributes to the collections, archives, and resources of the universities and cultural institutions of the region, nation, and the world
Create new scholarship which contributes to the advancement of understanding of American society's heterodox identities, institutions, and culture
Creatively present their research and scholarly work to diverse audiences including but not limited to other scholars in the academy; undergraduate and graduate students; scholars and professionals in
