The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people.
Position Summary
The successful candidate will assist two veterinarians with clinical service, teaching, and research activities involving farm animals and horses at both the haul-in facility and on-farm locations in Tifton. Responsibilities include preparation and organization of clinical and reproductive materials and equipment, inventory and supply management, animal handling and restraint, assistance during medical, surgical, and reproductive procedures, laboratory and sample preparation, facility and equipment maintenance, feeding and care of hospitalized animals, support for student organization and teaching activities, coordination of field service and laboratory exercises, and data entry into veterinary and research software systems.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Knowledge of basic farm animal and horse handling, restraint, and animal husbandry practices.
- Ability to safely work around large animals in both haul-in and on-farm environments.
Physical Demands
This position can be physically demanding at times and requires the ability to safely handle and restrain large animals, including cattle and horses.
Duties/Responsibilities
Animal Care and Clinical Assistance (30%): Assist with animal handling and restraint, feeding and monitoring hospitalized animals, and support veterinarians during clinical, surgical, and reproductive procedures.
Facility Maintenance and Material Preparation (30%): Clean and maintain the veterinary facility, equipment, and vehicles; prepare and organize clinical, surgical, and reproductive materials and supplies.
Inventory, Ordering, and Administrative Support (30%): Manage inventory and ordering of supplies and equipment, organize storage areas, maintain records, and assist with data entry.
Research and Teaching Support (10%): Assist with research projects, sample collection and preparation, student laboratory activities.
