Application Developer B/C (Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine)

The Human Pancreas Analysis Program in the Faryabi Lab at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine is seeking frontend web developers to support ongoing research into the multi-omics study of diabetes and other pancreatic disorders.

Successful candidates are responsible for:

  • Collaborating with backend developers to design, implement, and maintain a user-friendly portal for data management, integration, and analysis applications (Current site: Panc-DB).
  • Contributing to the development, testing, and maintenance of solutions for disseminating diverse genomics and imaging data modalities.
  • Participating in the technical design and implementation of a large-scale, cloud-based data commons for diabetes research, including data ingestion, harmonization, and storage, as well as building user-facing portals for data querying and analysis with various interactive and batch-based tools.

Successful candidates will also have the opportunity to engage in subsequent data analysis, integration, and interpretation. The projects are mainly funded by the Human Pancreas Analysis Program, supported by multi-million-dollar NIH grants aimed at advancing understanding of the root causes of diabetes.

Position contingent upon funding.

Qualifications for Developer B:

  • Master's degree in computer science, engineering, or related fields with at least 1 year of programming experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Demonstrated experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (React/Redux) and service-oriented architecture.
  • Demonstrated experience with modern data visualization packages (e.g., D3.js, Three.js).
  • Familiarity with build, version control, and other standard development tools.
  • Experience with genomic data, software, and databases is a plus.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a rapidly evolving team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Additional Qualifications for Developer C:

  • At least 3 years of experience in modern JavaScript web frameworks.
  • Experience with AWS API programming.
  • Experience with basic data analytic approaches.
  • Experience with molecular data analysis and visualization.

Pay Range: $61,000.00 - $92,000.00 Annual Rate.

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Department / School: Perelman School of Medicine.
