Application Developer
Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Application Developer, in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) of Rutgers Biomedical Health Sciences.
This position is responsible for configuring and managing cloud hosted AI platforms providing various emerging capabilities to all university members, such as AI chat bots, AI agents, etc. This includes configuring access policies, monitoring resources, configuring AI agents, reviewing and configuring the latest vendor provided changes. Additionally, this position will be responsible for providing tier 3 support, monitoring the tools and agents for security related concerns, creating and maintaining documentation and reviewing the latest technology news in the field of AI and LLMs. Their responsibility includes the integration of AI tools in the existing messaging and collaboration ecosystem, including the existing tools and maintenance platforms, licensing, and support tools.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Gather requirements and business needs from key stakeholders and OIT to help design, develop, implement and maintain an efficient AI/LLM platform that meets university standards.
- Maintain and administer all AI services for Rutgers University, ensuring its availability to all faculty, staff, students, and departmental units. This includes using various administrative tools and the administrator console to maintain a reliable and secure environment.
- Install and configure the service, integrating it with other university services, applications, and databases, and performing upgrades and maintenance. System monitoring will be an important aspect, along with the research and deployment of new releases and enhancements.
- Responsible for coding and scripting tasks, either independently or in collaboration with other developers to define and deploy new scripts, applications and tools, as well as making enhancements to existing ones.
- Manage 3rd party applications, integrating them with existing services, customizing solutions, working with cloud platforms, and assisting delegated IT administrators. Provide documentation to delegated administrators and communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including OIT staff and management.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field plus five (5) years of relevant work experience.
- Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

- Services must be up and running in production 24×7.
- In case of issues or outages, additional work hours will need to be immediately dedicated to bringing the services back online and functioning properly.
