Application Programmer Technician I

Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with SQL, Oracle Database, Oracle PeopleTools, Object Oriented Programming, and XML highly desired. 2+ years’ experience with PeopleSoft support, analysis, and development.

Position Summary:

This position, in support of UGA Administrative Information Systems, is responsible for assisting in the development, testing, implementation, and documentation of changes to modern Oracle applications such as PeopleSoft Financials 9.2 using related Oracle system development tools and database structures. The role includes administering role-based security for PeopleSoft Financials, as well as modifying and enhancing application systems and programs based on client requests and/or analyst/supervisor instructions.

In addition to supporting production application system operations, this position will play a key role in learning and supporting the implementation of a new Workday ERP system while continuing to maintain and optimize the existing PeopleSoft Financial system. The successful candidate will ensure smooth integration, reliable operation, and effective collaboration across platforms during this transition.

Provides technical support to the team responsible for a subset of business systems applications. Provides assistance in one or all areas of applications programming that includes testing, design, and analysis. Assists in the formulation of procedures and best practices for users of applications. This position, in support of UGA Administrative Information Systems, will assist in the integration, implementation, and operation of system applications.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Production Support Responsibilities

This position has responsibility for providing entry-level support for systems maintained by AIS. Work is performed under the close direction of senior personnel to ensure it aligns with institutional priorities.

  • Provide routine day-to-day support to end-users as directed by the supervisor or AIS senior leadership.
  • Perform straightforward, regularly scheduled maintenance tasks on assigned programs to promote uptime and efficient performance.
  • Assist in maintaining documentation for assigned systems and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Participate in the AIS response to system issues, including assisting senior staff with troubleshooting outside of business hours if requested.

Percentage of time: 55

Design and Development Responsibilities

This position functions in a support role, assisting in the execution of programming solutions for UGA and USG clients. Tasks focus on coding, debugging, and testing matters of limited complexity.

  • Observe and assist in client interviews to help gather basic requirements.
  • Assist in the coding, debugging, and configuration of application programs based on documented specifications provided by supervisors or analysts.
  • Perform unit testing on developed code, documenting results, and assisting in the correction of minor errors.
  • Review program specifications to gain exposure to system logic and identify basic gaps for discussion with senior personnel.

Percentage of time: 25

Administrative and Collaboration Responsibilities

This position collaborates with resources across UGA to support application system operations while strictly following established policies and best practices.

  • Maintain effective working relationships with the client community to ensure a basic awareness of user needs.
  • Follow and adhere to all system policies and standards.
  • Support AIS staff by collaborating on team goals and participating in group knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Ensure all work remains auditable and compliant with USG, UGA, and departmental procedures.

Percentage of time: 10

Project and Workload Management Responsibilities

This position is responsible for managing a personal workload that is closely monitored by AIS leadership.

  • Follow documented change management processes and maintain system documentation for auditability.
  • Plan and prioritize daily work in close coordination with the direct supervisor.
  • Provide regular updates on the status of assigned tasks using designated tracking tools.
  • Engage in training and professional development activities to gain proficiency in new skills and prepare for future growth within the technical track
