Application Review Specialist (0.76 FTE)

The Application Review Specialist will be responsible for the comprehensive review of undergraduate applications and will be expected to implement review procedures on a variety of application types (e.g., transfer, freshman, special non-degree, early college credit). This position will examine and determine residency, determine admissibility, and process accordingly to ensure admission guidelines are met. This position will work with the review team and the Assistant/Director of Admissions when necessary. In addition to the duties already listed, the Application Review Specialist will maintain admission records, generate admissions correspondence, and work with the admissions business processes. The Application Review Specialist must have the ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. They must also possess the willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills.

Duties:

  • A. Evaluation of Undergraduate Applications
    • Determine completeness of application. Work with Admissions team on outreach strategies. Evaluate admission applications for transfer, readmit, international and special students using ImageNow and PeopleSoft. Perform comprehensive review of applications based on admit type. Determine academic eligibility by reviewing all admission criteria—high school records, college transcripts, pre-college achievement tests, and student statements. Evaluate transfer credits for all US accredited college work. Determine which credits are transferrable and which courses can be equated to UW-Whitewater course numbers. Determine residency of students according to Wisconsin Statutes. Comprehensively review academic records to determine admission status/decisions. Apply UW-Whitewater policies when necessary. Finalize admission with notification, collection and re-evaluation of final transcripts when necessary. Maintain contact with Assistant Director/Director of Admissions on applications that require further evaluation. Process admission cancellations for students; this may be done in consultation with First Year Experience, Housing and Registrar’s Office.
  • B. Maintain positive relations with university personnel
    • Notify appropriate administrative, academic, and service offices of newly admitted students for follow-up action. Provide quality information and assistance to Admissions Staff and student workers on day-to-day application processing, when needed. Maintain a strong knowledge of UW System Policies, the UW-Whitewater catalog as well as specific departmental requirements as they relate to student applicants. In collaboration with the Assistant Director, contact university personnel regarding changes in university policy, course content, titles and numbers evaluation of transfer credits, general studies, awarding of associate’s and/or bachelor’s degrees, curriculum, major and minor requirements, test credits, probationary status and the matriculation process. Obtain correct information from service offices (such as Residence Life, University Financial Services, Registrar, Housing, Financial Aid) to provide to prospective students.
  • C. Provide accurate information and customer service to prospective students
    • Answer phone and inquiries from students, family members, high school and college personnel concerning admission criteria—including interpretation of university policies. Contact students of the incomplete status of their applications adding any information pertinent to their particular application status.
  • D. Miscellaneous Duties
    • Maintain knowledge of computer capabilities. Work with Admission computer liaison to insure accurate reporting of admission data, which may include testing of data and analyzing the details of developed queries. Initiate daily and weekly queries in PeopleSoft. Maintain historical admission statistics and provide information upon request. Perform other duties as assigned by Assistant Director/Director of Admissions.

Assistant Coach – combined events, horizontal jumps (0.24 FTE)

The Assistant Coach will assist the Head Coach of Track and Field in the planning, recruiting, coaching, developing, implementing, communication and administering of his/her program to achieve University and Department objectives. Goals and objectives are to be developed prior to the beginning of each season with the Head Coach. The person in the role is expected to exhibit behavior that enhances the respect for the student-athletes, the athletics program, and the University. The Assistant Coach is required to assist in the direction and control of the program in accordance with NCAA, WIAC, and University rules and regulations. Violation of University, NCAA or Conference rules on the part of Athletic Department personnel may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

Assistant Coach - Throws Job Duties

  • Adhere to all rules and guidelines of the NCAA, WIAC and University.
  • Assist head coach to plan and direct the development of student-athletes in relation to general and specific skills necessary for successful competition.
  • Adhere to all athletic training measures for the safety and welfare of student-athletes.
  • Assist with scheduling, conduct, and management of intercollegiate athletics contests.
  • Assist with instructing student-athletes in the principles and rules of the sport, WIAC and University policies.
  • Schedule, prepare, and supervise all team practices, travel and activities in the absence of the head coach.
  • Attend staff meetings/professional development seminars, and assist with total program issues.
  • Represent the head coach at WIAC and NCAA meetings in their absence.
  • Assist head coach to ensure the safety, maintenance and preparation of the playing and practice areas for all student-athletes.
  • Assist with recruitment and recommendation of student-athletes to the University.
  • Complete recruiting logs on a monthly basis.
  • Interact with admissions personnel in the recruitment policies and procedures for the University.
  • Assist the head coach with fund raising projects needed to support program. Assist the head coach with support and promotion of sport.
  • Assist with the total program support through Athletic Department activities and events.
  • Attend job-related clinics and conferences.
  • Maintain current membership in professional organizations.
  • Attend appropriate WIAC meetings in the absence of the head coach.
  • Serve on department and university committees as needed.
  • Serve as a resource to the community in areas of expertise.
  • Assist the head coach with the development of outreach activities which support and enhance the athletics program, individual sports, and university.
  • Assume other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.

Compensation:

Well-qualified candidates can expect a combined starting annual salary of $46,224 commensurate with the candidate's education, related experience, and qualifications. Required Qualifications:

Assistant Coach:

  • High school diploma
  • 3 years of administration office work experience (Associate or Bachelor’s degree may substitute for years of experience).

Application Review Specialist:

  • High school diploma
  • 3 years of administration office work experience (Associate or Bachelor’s degree may substitute for years of experience)
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of computer software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, email, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and organize a variety of activities and projects simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications:

Assistant Coach:

  • Earned Associate and/or Bachelor’s degree.
  • Familiarity with student information systems, particularly PeopleSoft.
  • Experience working with student transcripts/records, transfer credit evaluations or academic advising.
  • Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and exhibit exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience in providing effective customer service skills and the ability to provide accurate and efficient service to staff, students (both prospective and current), other campus personnel, the general public, and visitors to campus.

Application Review Specialist:

  • Familiarity with student information systems, particularly PeopleSoft
  • Experience working with student transcripts/records, transfer credit evaluations or academic advising
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to establish positive interaction with students, staff and faculty
  • Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and exhibit exceptional attention to detail

Combined Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to determine a variety of math computations (i.e. class rank, grade point average).
  • Consistent and proven ability to recruit high-level student/athletes.
  • Consistent and proven ability to coach and develop high-level student/athletes.
  • Ability to consistently meet recruiting expectations established by the head coach.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and organize a variety of activities and projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of computer software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, email, etc.).
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to establish positive interaction with students, staff and faculty.
