Overview

The Auburn University Libraries’ Administration Office seeks candidates for the position of Applications Systems Analyst.

This role works closely with clients to understand their needs and defines the system scope and objectives needed to fit those needs. Creates and modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering resource capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results. Responsible for program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, modifies, and writes scripts and program code to support library operations.
  • Installs, modifies, and supports server-based open-source software and vendor-provided software.
  • Uses available APIs to create automation workflows and to connect software systems.
  • Implements the technical tasks for the application of and compliance with technical standards such as code reviews, unit testing, and security reviews.
  • Works closely with more senior Application Systems Analysts to prepare detailed specifications from which programs will be written to ensure compliance with business and technical requirements.
  • Implements the program design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and support of application software.
  • May participate in the evaluation of software products and programming languages to determine their applicability to a specific system or project.
  • May have quality assurance review responsibility to ensure that programs, applications, and systems meet business and technical requirements.
  • Serves as a backup junior system administrator, applying patches and security updates to servers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree-no specific discipline.
    3 years of relevant IT experience to include systems analysis/programming in a business or university setting.
  • OR
    Associate's degree-no specific discipline.
    7 years of relevant IT experience to include systems analysis/programming in a business or university setting.
  • OR
    High school diploma or equivalent.
    11 years of relevant IT experience to include systems analysis/programming in a business or university setting.

Auburn University Libraries would like to emphasize that the following qualifications are desired and not required. We aim to foster a learning environment and expect to train new employees on these qualifications as needed.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in computer science, information technology or related field
  • Skilled in writing and supporting server-based software written in Java, Javascript, and PHP
  • Experience creating web-based interfaces and tools using HTML and CSS
  • Ability to use RESTful APIs to automate processes and connect various workflows
  • Knowledge of automated testing and continuous integration
  • Experience creating and managing databases in MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL
  • Experience managing virtual servers through VMWare, Nagios, and Ansible
  • Experience working with digital content management systems such as CONTENTdm, Omeka
  • Experience working in academia, libraries and archives
