Applications Systems Analyst/Programmer Intermediate

Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) plays an integral role in the success of Michigan Medicine by providing clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with exceptional technology-related information, products, services, and support.

The HITS Clinical & Revenue Cycle IT (CRC) division is responsible for more than 350 clinical and revenue cycle applications that clinicians, staff, and patients rely on every day. CRC includes specialized teams that support inpatient, ambulatory, departmental, and revenue cycle areas across Michigan Medicine.

CRC also oversees many of Michigan Medicine's major IT platforms and applications, including the electronic health record (Epic), virtual care, pharmacy, radiology, radiation oncology, registration, document management, billing, and more.

Highly relied upon across the healthcare system, the CRC team collaborates closely with operational partners to deliver exceptional service. Team members regularly engage with customers to implement and configure workflows, enhancements, optimizations, and new modules or software, while ensuring robust change control and testing processes. CRC staff contribute to a wide range of projects that help propel Michigan Medicine into the future.

Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) plays a role in the success of Michigan Medicine by providing clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with technology-related information, products, and support. HITS also provides institutional expertise related to IT strategy, security, infrastructure, and resource management.

The Clinical and Revenue Cycle IT (CRC) division of HITS is seeking an Application Systems Analyst to join the Enterprise Clinical Support Applications (ECS) team. ECS supports essential tools used across all areas of the Michigan Medicine Academic Medical Center, including clinical, operational, and research domains. These applications are broadly accessible, integrated with Epic (our Electronic Health Record), and play a vital role in clinical documentation, patient care, and revenue cycle operations.

In this role, you will collaborate with a diverse team of application systems analysts, business analysts, project managers, and end users to provide support and analysis for multiple applications. These include OnBase (content services platform), Logical Ink (electronic forms and signatures), DAX Copilot (AI-powered ambient clinical documentation), Fluency Direct (AI voice-to-text solution), 360 Encompass (AI-assisted coding), Digital Fax Services, Secure Managed File Transfer, and other ECS-supported tools.

You will report directly to the ECS Team Manager and receive day-to-day guidance from the ECS Team Lead. Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role.

  • Support the administration, monitoring, and maintenance of software infrastructures and applications
  • Assist in analyzing, testing, implementing, and maintaining systems and applications
  • Coordinate scheduled downtime for updates, maintenance, and upgrades in alignment with change management procedures
  • Contribute to practices that ensure the integrity, safety, and availability of data and applications
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose application issues; recommend and support solutions
  • Respond to and resolve issues and requests submitted via the issue tracking system (ServiceNow)
  • Communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with vendors, partner teams, internal colleagues, and end users to support application needs
  • Track progress, meet deadlines, and report status on assigned tasks and projects
  • Maintain and update existing documentation; assist in developing new documentation as needed
  • Participate in on-call support rotation as assigned
  • Engage in ad-hoc workgroups and contribute to team initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2-3 years of IT related experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, information technology, computer science, or a related field
  • Experience with SQL, Java, and .NET technologies
  • Familiarity with APIs and HL7 interfaces
  • Understanding of IT infrastructure and cloud technologies as they relate to application platforms
  • Knowledge of IT security best practices and threat protection strategies
  • Experience supporting large, enterprise-wide applications
  • Prior experience working in healthcare IT environments
  • Demonstrated customer focus with strong interpersonal and service-oriented skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Experience using ServiceNow and Microsoft 365 tools
