Develop and implement aquatic activities, classes and/or
workshops that utilize the RSOP pool flow system.
Contribute to the RSOP team by assisting and working with
individuals from multiple ethnic and cultural backgrounds including
but not limited to differing race, color, creed, religion, national
origin, gender, age, marital status, disability, public assistance
status, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or
gender expression.
20% - Program Planning
- Collaborate with RSOP professional staff, UMD athletics staff,
UMD facility management and third-party organizations to manage and
schedule the aquatic facilities.
- Collaborate with RSOP professional staff to coordinate paddling
programming (white water kayak, sea kayak, stand up paddleboard,
and surf) in the RSOP pool.
- Collaborate to create, monitor, assess and update policies and
practices in all aspects of aquatic programming.
- Participate in long-range planning and events for RSOP.
25% - Student Supervision and Development
- Supervise student aquatic staff in RSOP including creating job
descriptions, hiring, scheduling, training, assigning work,
evaluating performance, rewards, and discipline.
- Ensure student workers are enforcing procedures and
practices.
- Create and promote student professional development
opportunities where appropriate.
20% - Risk Management
- Create, update, teach, and monitor safety and risk as it
pertains to aquatic programming.
- Oversee and manage first aid kits for the RSOP department.
- Administer and provide proper certifications for RSOP student
staff, including, but not limited to, American Red Cross First Aid,
CPR and AED certifications, Lifeguarding certifications, and Water
Safety Instructor certifications.
5% - Fiscal Management
- Operate under the budgetary guidance of RSOP Associate Director
for Recreation and Wellness and provide feedback on expenditures
and opportunities for savings.
- Oversee the Aquatic programming budget, including swim lessons,
and manage aquatic equipment to provide procurement recommendations
to the Associate Director of Recreation and Wellness.
- Represent RSOP on campus and community committees and external
collaborations.

In-Person work environment; Monday-Friday: 8:00am-4:30pm, with
having some flexibility based on operational need.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- BA/BS plus at least four years of experience or a combination
of related education and work experience to equal at least eight
years.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
- American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor (required
within 6 months of hire)
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor (required within 6
months of hire)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in relevant field
- American Red Cross Instructor Certifications
- Experience with a variety of paddling programming, including
but not limited to white water kayaking, sea kayaking, stand up
paddle boarding, and surfing.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills to hire, train,
supervise and evaluate student employees as demonstrated through
past supervision of staff.
- Demonstrated ability to manage participant-program conflicts,
risk management, and emergency response.
- Must possess strong communication (written/oral) as well as
interpersonal skills.
About the Department
Recreational Sports Outdoor Program provides recreational, fitness,
sport, and outdoor programming to the UMD and Northern Minnesota
community. Over 90% of UMD students and over 700 employees
participate in RSOP offerings.
RSOP consists of 13 professional staff and over 200 student
employees providing opportunities through Intramurals, Sport Clubs,
Fitness, Aquatics, Climbing, Paddling, Outdoor Trips and
Activities, Equipment Rental and much more. RSOP is an integral
part of the student experience, and a primary contributor to the
health and wellness of the UMD community.

Pay Range: $53,497.60 per year- $57,000.00 per year ;
depending on education/qualifications/experience
