Aquatics & Programs Coordinator
About the Role
The Aquatics Coordinator supports the daily operations of the Campus Recreation aquatic facility, including lifeguard supervision, basic programming, and facility safety. This position works closely with professional staff to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for campus and community users. The role is primarily operational with supervisory responsibility for student employees.
Aquatics Operations
- Support day-to-day aquatic facility operations, including opening/closing procedures and safety oversight
- Ensure pool and deck areas are clean, safe, and meet health standards
- Report maintenance concerns and track basic work orders
- Assist with facility scheduling and activity set-up for classes, rentals, and events
- Monitor participation and usage as requested
Staff Supervision
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise lifeguards and student staff
- Maintain staff certifications and assist with in-service trainings
- Provide on-deck supervision to ensure safety and customer service standards
Programming Support
- Coordinate group and private swim lessons
- Support delivery of American Red Cross certification courses (Lifeguard, CPR/AED, First Aid)
- Assist with scheduling and staffing of instructional programs
Customer Service & Facility Use
- Assist with aquatic rentals and special events, including on-site support as needed
- Provide a high level of customer service to students, staff, and community users
Administrative Support
- Assist with payroll review and basic budget tracking
- Support purchasing and equipment inventory for aquatics
- Maintain program and certification records
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management, or related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in aquatics or recreational facilities
- At least 1 year of experience supervising staff
- Current (or ability to obtain within 6 months): American Red Cross Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor (WSI), Lifeguard Instructor (LGI)
Preferred
- Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT)
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO)
- Experience with swim lessons, lifeguard training, or swim/dive meets
Skills & Abilities
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to supervise, train, and support student staff
- Organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Sound judgment and conflict resolution skills
- Knowledge of aquatics safety standards and best practices
- Demonstrated commitment to teamwork, integrity, and student development
