Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Area Coordinator is a full-time live-in entry level professional who serves a critical supervisory and administrative role within the Department of Housing and Residence Life. Under the direction of the Associate Director of Residence Life, the Area Coordinator is responsible for the implementation and coordination of a comprehensive Residential Life Program to include but not limited to the supervision of student staff, advisement and assisting in the training of student leaders/organizations, addressing resident, community, facility needs, and adjudicating residential conduct within their prescribed village.
A competitive candidate for the Area Coordinator position must have a foundational understanding and practical experience utilizing student development theory; be knowledgeable about the principles and trends of residence life and student conduct, be able to successfully manage multiple competing time sensitive projects, have a foundational understanding of student conduct practices and principles, be solution and care oriented, and have experience planning engaging events (large & small scale) with educational components.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelors degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience: One year of full-time experience in a college or university residence hall environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Education, Business, Social Work, or other area
- Two or more years of experience hiring, training, and supervising student staff
- Experience in student leadership, mentoring, living-learning or themed communities, and/or residential curriculum
- Experience managing or supervising residential summer conferencing operations
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders including students, faculty, and staff, parents and guests
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience developing and facilitating interactive training and developing and assessing learning outcomes
