Position Summary
The Department of English and Creative Arts in the School of Arts and Sciences at the Lebanese American University (LAU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank in Academic Writing, Applied Linguistics or TESOL.
We seek a dynamic scholar-educator with a specialized research and teaching interest in incorporating Artificial Intelligence in writing pedagogy and assessment. The successful candidate will provide visionary leadership for our Academic English Sequence, guiding its strategic development in an era of rapidly evolving digital writing technologies. The ideal applicant will have a proven record of scholarship and a commitment to shaping the future of writing instruction.
Responsibilities
- Teach and develop undergraduate and potential graduate courses in academic writing, composition theory, applied linguistics, and digital literacies.
- Provide academic leadership in the coordination, curriculum development, and pedagogical innovation of the Academic English Sequence.
- Conduct and publish scholarly research in areas such as writing studies, applied linguistics, TESOL, and the intersection of AI and composition.
- Lead initiatives to research, develop, and implement effective policies and pedagogical frameworks for AI use in academic writing across the university.
- Mentor and advise students and contribute to the professional development of writing instructors.
- Participate actively in departmental, school, and university service, including committee work and academic event planning.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, TESOL or a related field with a research focus in Academic Writing or critical AI studies and the ethics of AI use in academic contexts.
- A demonstrated research agenda and record of scholarly publication relevant to writing studies and/or applied linguistics.
- Evidence of successful university-level teaching in academic writing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise and a research focus on AI in writing pedagogy, digital literacies, and writing assessment.
- Experience in writing program administration, curriculum design, or faculty development.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
