Position Summary

The Department of Political and International Studies (POLIS) at the School of Arts and Sciences, Lebanese American University, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in Political Science/International Relations.

The department seeks a highly qualified and motivated candidate who is committed to excellence in innovative teaching, impactful research, and dedicated academic advising. The ideal candidate will also actively contribute to institutional development and community engagement.

Responsibilities

• Teach international affairs and political science courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels
• Supervise senior study and MA thesis students
• Advise and mentor students
• Engage in service to the department, the university and the profession
• Contribute to the development of the program and seek external grants
• Additional duties may be set by the department in light of departmental needs and priorities

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• A PhD in Political Science/International Relations from a well-recognized university
• Specialization in International Affairs
• Specialization in quantitative research methods
• Specialization in area studies other than the Middle East
• Evidence of research and publication record
• Evidence of teaching experience in research methods courses

Preferred Qualifications

• Evidence of success in securing external funding for research

Courses are delivered in an interactive setting while being facilitated by distinguished faculty, holding PhDs from renowned American, Canadian, and European universities. Their expertise spans key areas such as Middle East and North African studies, security studies, Islamic studies, legal studies, conflict resolution, and governance. Through a dynamic blend of lectures, discussions, case studies, and experiential learning, students are encouraged to think critically and apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges. The department’s mission is to advance knowledge and equip students with the skills and insights necessary to lead with integrity and to serve both their communities and the global society.
