Asbestos Program Coordinator, EH&S

The Asbestos Program Coordinator (AC) performs a wide variety of health and safety related duties for the Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) Department. The AC communicates with professional staff, clerical staff, physical plant staff, students, university departments, regulators, and outside vendors. The AC must communicate effectively, recognize unsafe conditions, and act to correct them. Reports directly to the Manager of Safety and Industrial Hygiene Programs.

Work assignments focus on maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations. Key duties include:

• Coordination of campus asbestos and lead programs.
• Safety and Industrial Hygiene program support.
• Laboratory safety audits and inspections.
• Assist with training development and presentation.
• Provide emergency response, including outside normal business hours.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree, excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, working knowledge of asbestos risk management and legislation. Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, accommodate flex scheduling, and hold a valid New York State Drivers License.

Preferred Qualifications

New York State/EPA Certification in Asbestos Inspector and Management Planner, experience in academic/research environment, excellent written communication skills, field experience with NYS Code Rule 56, QA/QC experience, and one year or more in asbestos consultation.

Physical Demands

Ability to be medically cleared for respirator and full-body protection, work on a ladder, lift 40 lbs., and collect samples from various locations.

Salary Range

$57,151 - $65,000
