Description

Yale’s American Studies Program and the Center for the Study of Race, Indigeneity, and Transnational Migration (RITM) invite applications for a Faculty Fellow position for the Spring 2027 semester. Applicants should be pursuing active research on a topic related to race, indigeneity, or transnational migration in the United States. Individuals from all fields are invited to apply.

During the five months of this appointment, the selected Faculty Fellow is expected to be in residence in New Haven, Connecticut to pursue their own research. While they will have no teaching obligations, the Fellow will be expected to present on their research. Access to Yale’s archives, libraries, and other resources, along with an office space, will be provided. The Fellow will participate in RITM and AMST’s programming, give a public talk on their research, and engage with the larger Yale community during their tenure. 

This fellowship is made possible with funding provided by the ASCEND Initiative. Funding will be commensurate with the faculty member’s semester salary allotment; the fellowship includes a generous travel and lodging stipend. Start date for position is January 2027.

Qualifications

The fellowship is open to faculty members at any rank on a continuing appointment at any of the following HBCUs: Cheney University of Pennsylvania, Claflin University, Fisk University, Florida A&M University, Hampton University, Howard University, Jackson State University, Meharry Medical College, Morehouse College, Morgan State University, North Carolina A&T State University, Prairie View A&M University, and Tuskegee University.

The application deadline for a Spring 2027 fellowship is May 1st, 2026. Applications must include:

  1. Cover letter
  2. The applicant's curriculum vitae (CV)
  3. Letter of support from department chair or academic dean
  4. Names and contact information for two references.
  5. A research proposal (1500 words, maximum), including:
    • Title of the research project:Summary of the project's goals and scope, describing the research plan, methods, and source materials that will be used to acheive the goals, and how much of the project will be completed during the fellowship. Please indicate how this research relatesto race, indigeneity, or transnational migration in the United States.
    • Relevance statement:What benefits or outcomes will this project contribute to the academic fild, the community, public policy, or other human interests?
    • Resources:What resources at Yale will you use to pursue this project?
    • Support:What support might you need from Yale to help you accomplish this project?
