- Full-time, permanent position
- Base salary will be in the range $83,776 - $93,121 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 5)
- Based at our vibrant St Lucia campus
About This Opportunity
The Assistant Accountant provides financial administration support to the Contract & Grants Accounting function, assisting with the financial management of research and non-research grants across the University. This role supports the accurate setup and administration of research income billing plans and contributes to the effective financial management of projects by working closely with Senior Principal Accountants and stakeholders across the University.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Maintain accurate financial records for research and non-research grants, including project setup, maintenance and closeout activities.
- Support research billing processes including raising invoices, reviewing overheads and processing grant-related refunds.
- Review financial exception reports and prepare journals or adjustments to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Liaise with academics, professional staff, research offices and external funding bodies to support the financial administration of research projects

About You
You are a detail-oriented finance professional with strong accounting knowledge and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders in a complex organisational environment.
You will demonstrate:
- A degree in Commerce, Business or Accounting, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education
- At least three years’ experience in a general accounting or finance administration role
- Experience using financial or accounting systems to extract data and prepare reports
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and other data management tools
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work with stakeholders across the organisation
- A proactive and reliable approach, demonstrating initiative and accountability in delivering accurate financial outcomes
