Assistant/Associate/Clinical Professor of PA Studies
Primary Purpose and Essential Functions: University of the Pacific seeks a collaborative faculty member to join a Physician Assistant Program recognized for its stellar reputation, unique curriculum, and strong commitment to professional growth. The PA Program faculty members are integral in all activities of the program, including providing didactic education. Faculty workload includes teaching, scholarship, and service. The program supports collaborative research, continued education, and financial aid for doctoral degrees.
Responsibilities:
- Advising and mentoring students, course coordination, classroom teaching, participation in course assignments and student assessment, developing student objectives, participating in lab sessions, performing clinical site visits, and assisting with clinical site evaluation.
- Establishing a personal program of scholarly activity.
- Participation in department meetings, college and university committees, and state and/or national organizations.
- Participation in the ARC-PA continuing accreditation process.
- Participation in the admissions process.
- Clinical: Opportunities exist for release time to perform clinical work in the PAs area of expertise.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate from an ARC-PA-accredited PA program, accredited NP program, or MD/DO program.
- Master's degree in PA studies or other discipline.
- Current NCCPA certification or discipline-specific national certification, state licensure in California (or state license eligibility).
- Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience as a PA, NP, or MD/DO.
Preferred Qualifications:
- DMSc, PhD, DHSc, MD/DO or equivalent preferred.
- Proficiency in Medical Spanish.
- Proficiency in POCUS.
- Experience with advanced technical procedures (e.g. intubation, lumbar puncture, central lines, para and thoracentesis).
- Academic experience in Physician Assistant Education.
- Sincere desire for personal growth and development as an educator, including teaching, scholarship, and service.
- Desire to teach and learn from students in all phases of the curriculum.
- Involvement or desire to be involved in professional organizations within the field of specialty.
- Involvement or desire to participate in professional education beyond the school, on local, state, regional, national, and international levels.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills, specifically MS Office Suite Programs (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and MS Outlook.
- Ability to work as a team with administrators, fellow faculty, staff, and students.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
- Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.
Physical Requirements: Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion. Occasional standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment/Work Week/Travel: Workload varies by trimester, assigned by the Program Director. Emphasis on balancing teaching, scholarship, and service. Valid driver's license required.
