Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor
Job Description
The Master of Social Work (MSW) Program at University of the Pacific, School of Health Sciences, invites applicants for a full-time, eleven-month Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor position.
The MSW Program offers a specialized practice concentration in health care social work, with opportunities for students to focus in areas such as mental health and aging. The curriculum follows the competency-based education model of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and includes inter-professional and simulation lab training.
The program features an accelerated hybrid format: a sixteen-month sequence for students with any bachelor's degree except social work, and a twelve-month advanced standing option for those with a bachelor's in social work.
Teaching is the primary focus, aiming to promote student learning in a humanistic environment for evidence-based, culturally sensitive care. Faculty provide didactic and clinical education, participate in cross-teaching, and engage in scholarship and research to advance knowledge in diversity, human rights, and social justice.
Responsibilities include:
- Classroom teaching and guiding student scholarly work.
- Instruction in areas of expertise.
- Curriculum development.
- Academic advising and career mentoring.
- Participation in CSWE accreditation and department meetings.
- Establishing a personal scholarly program.
- Other duties as assigned.
Scholarship expectations emphasize collaboration with community organizations and the university. Service involves contributions to the program, university, community, and profession.
Workload is assigned by the Program Director, balancing teaching, scholarship, and service. This is a non-tenure track position with annual evaluations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited program.
- Two years of post-MSW experience, preferably in health care.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Academic experience in social work education.
- Clinical social work licensure or eligibility.
- Clinical supervision experience.
- Doctoral degree in social work or related field.
- Specialization in areas like medical social work, aging, community health, mental health, or healthcare policy.
- Experience with online pedagogy and social justice-oriented practice.
Physical Requirements: Extended periods of sitting, repetitive motion, occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment: Schedule depends on course and department needs.
