The School of Applied Economics at Renmin University of China (RUC) was formed in 2019 following the merger of three departments; the Department of National Economy Management, the Department of Energy Economics, and the Research Institute of Regional and Urban Economics. The history of the school could be traced back to 1950, when the newly-formed RUC set-up the Department of Economic Planning and Research Division of Economic Geography. Since the early days of the People’s Republic, RUC has thus been an important national center for teaching and research of applied economics. In turn, RUC has subsequently earned a strong reputation in applied economics as assessments conducted by the Chinese Ministry of Education (2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 ) consistently ranked the university top in the teaching and research of applied economics across the country.

Applicants with research interests in Low-carbon economics, National Economics, Defense Economics, Regional Economics, Urban Economics, Industry Economics and Energy Economics are especially encouraged to apply.
