Job Description Summary

The Auburn University Harrison College of Pharmacy (HCOP) invites applications for a full-time 12-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (Tenure Track) or Clinical Professor (Non-Tenure Track) in the Department of Pharmacy Practice. Inpatient and outpatient opportunities exist in ambulatory care, substance use disorders/mental health/psychiatry, metabolic disease, oncology, pediatrics, and other specialty areas. Appointment as Associate or Full Professor/Clinical Professor requires experience consistent with appointment to the Associate or Full Professor rank at a research-intensive university.

HCOP is focused on advancing patient care through translational research and development of transformative pharmacy practice models. The innovative professional practice and instructional programs at HCOP provide opportunities for faculty to teach in a student-centered learning environment, including unique early and advanced experiential programs.

The Department of Pharmacy Practice is committed to the success of all HCOP academic programs. Faculty members support the overall mission of the College by ensuring that HCOP Doctor of Pharmacy students graduate from the professional program as fully capable clinicians, prepared to deliver high-quality care and enhance the health and well-being of their patients. Teaching opportunities are available in Undergraduate, Doctor of Pharmacy, and Graduate and Residency programs. Faculty members in the Department of Pharmacy Practice provide outreach through the provision of patient care, as well as professional service. Additionally, the department is committed to conducting impactful research that advances the scientific community and pharmacy practice. The purpose of this position is to contribute across all mission areas while serving as a leader in advancing pharmacy practice.

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Contribute to education, interprofessional practice, and research efforts related to HCOP areas of distinction
  • Actively participate in the teaching mission of the Harrison College of Pharmacy at the undergraduate, professional (PharmD), and graduate (Residency, MS, PhD) levels, as appropriate. This may include teaching in the didactic or experiential settings, to include active learning in the Integrated Practice Ready Curriculum, precepting students on Introductory and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences, or leading interprofessional education learning opportunities.
  • Mentor undergraduate, professional (PharmD) and graduate (Residency, MS, PhD) students, as appropriate
  • Develop and maintain a model pharmacy practice consistent with pharmacy advancement goals and HCOP areas of distinction.
  • Contribute to both clinical research and service in alignment with departmental Research and Outreach goals
  • Develop and/or maintain an extramurally funded research program from public and/or private sources, as appropriate
  • Develop a scholarly program and demonstrate a high level of scholarly activity as evidenced by quality publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and through scientific presentations
  • Demonstrate transformative leadership and advocacy in statewide efforts to implement pharmacy practice models that improve medication use and health outcomes
  • Participate and provide leadership in professional and scientific organizations
  • Emphasis on responsibilities is flexible and will be tailored to meet the individual professional goals of the candidate and as agreed upon by the candidate and the College

Pertinent Facts about the Position

This position will be based on the Auburn University campus in Auburn, AL. Auburn is a friendly university town in the rolling hills of east central Alabama, with a population around 60,000. It is conveniently located along Interstate 85, less than 60 miles northeast of Alabama's capital city of Montgomery; about 30 miles northwest of Columbus, Georgia; and 100 miles southwest of Atlanta. Alabama's Gulf Shores can be reached in less than four hours.

Auburn University HCOP has a campus at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL, with full-time faculty, staff, and P1-P4 students. HCOP also has remote learning sites (regions) in Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, and Auburn/Opelika, Alabama and Columbus, Georgia, with full-time faculty and P4 students.

The Department of Pharmacy Practice has over 30 faculty members practicing throughout Alabama and Western Georgia, and over 150 adjunct clinical faculty.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree and must have successfully completed a postgraduate PGY-1 residency at the time employment begins. Additional consideration will be given to candidates who have completed a PGY-2 residency in an applicable field of training that aligns with position responsibilities; completed a pharmacy fellowship; or is board-certified (BCPS, BCACP, BCOP, BCPP, etc.). Experience in the pharmacy practice area of focus or demonstration of leadership in programs that advance pharmacy practice or research will also be considered. The successful candidate must hold an active Alabama pharmacy license in good standing or must be eligible to obtain an Alabama pharmacy license (within 3 months of hire), which is required for this position. Excellent communication skills are required.
