The Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) cluster at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) invites applications for a tenure-track, open-rank faculty position in Human-Centred Design / Human-Computer Interaction (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level).

We are seeking a creative and critical design researcher who works at the interface where computing technologies meet humans. The ideal candidate should be familiar with humanities and/or social science approaches to understanding humans, and computational methodologies for building digital devices, applications, systems, and/or products.

Backgrounds in relatively established areas such as Human-Computer Interaction or Human-Centred Design are key indicators of suitability for the position, but we also encourage candidates who pioneer new interdisciplinary syntheses to apply. Engagement with artificial intelligence is a plus.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

• Lead the development and teaching of new undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Human-Centred Design and Human-Computer Interaction, including new Studio courses.
• Contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives, in particular relating to Design and AI, through collaboration with colleagues in engineering, architecture, computer science, and design.
• Mentor students, including those working on capstone projects that connect research on human problems with technological innovation.

Qualifications

Applicants must be able to demonstrate that their research speaks to both social science and engineering audiences. They should have an excellent record of effective teaching at the university level.

SUTD especially seeks creative scholars with the potential to develop new directions in interdisciplinary teaching and who are interested in collaborating with scientists and technologists. Experience or interest in fostering collaborations with industry or the public sector will also be considered an advantage.
